Clarksons Offices Athens
The same discipline as a pack, at four metres: type that has to be read while walking, in a building that was still being built.
The brief
An architectural interior needed a graphic layer that belonged to the client's brand and to the building at the same time — wayfinding people could use at walking pace, plus environmental graphics that gave each zone a character without shouting over the architecture.
The move
I set one type system with two optical sizes: one for signs read at three metres, one for numbering and labels read at arm's length. Everything sits on the building's own grid, so the graphics land on architectural joints rather than fighting them.
The detail
Sightlines decided the sizes. I set out the type at eye level, 1.7 m, and checked each sign from where someone would actually first see it — which changed several sizes and moved two panels entirely.
